WATCH: President Trump, Vice President Harris Meet At Remembrance Ceremony On 23rd Anniversary Of 9/11 Attacks After Contentious Debate

Following a contentious debate performance between the major two-party candidates on Tuesday evening, Vice President Kamala Harris and President Donald Trump met again at the 9/11 memorial in New York City on Wednesday morning. The two briefly shook hands during the solemn event at Ground Zero. In addition to Trump and Harris attending the event, President Joe Biden, former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg (D), Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), and other lawmakers were in attendance.

The interaction between the two candidates comes after a tense debate night that saw both of them exchange attacks against one another's record and personal lives. The two were seen briefly exchanging words,, but Harris did not appear to interact with Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), and President Trump did not seem to interact with President Joe Biden, instead opting to speak with Mayor Bloomberg on multiple occasions. Alongside the presidential candidates, members of the NYPD and FDNY were seen in their dress uniforms to honor the 2,996 Americans who lost their lives on that fateful day 23 years ago.

Following the 9/11 anniversary event, President Biden and Vice President Harris traveled to Shanksville, Pennsylvania to lay a wreath at the memorial for Flight 93. The Democrat duo then traveled to a volunteer fire station in Shanksville to meet with first responders and 9/11 families. The two are then scheduled to travel to the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate the 189 people who lost their lives that day after American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the epicenter of the American military. According to CNN, Harris's running mate, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), will also be attending a 9/11 memorial event, but his office did not clarify where the event will occur.

President Trump and Sen. Vance mirrored Biden and Harris throughout the day, with the Republican ticket visiting a New York firehouse to meet with first responders after leaving the memorial. The Republican ticket is scheduled to visit Shanksville in the afternoon.

The brief interaction between Vice President Harris and President Trump, prompted by the 45th president, shows that even after a tense debate where both candidates laid out their vision for the country over the next four years, the two candidates can put aside their differences and show civility to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11.
