WATCH: President Trump Vows To Revoke Temporary Protected Status For Haitian Migrants In Springfield - 'They Have To Be Removed'

On Wednesday, 45th President Donald Trump explained that he would revoke Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian migrants that have flooded into Springfield, Ohio in recent years in a second administration. After tens of thousands of Haitian migrants traveled from the Caribbean nation to the southern border in 2021, the Biden-Harris administration allowed the migrants into the country and gave them the ability to work and live in the United States.

In response to the influx of Haitian migrants to communities like Springfield, Ohio, President Trump said that he would deport the migrants back to their home countries. "Springfield is such a beautiful place. Have you seen what's happened to it? It's been overrun. You can't do that to people. They have to be removed," Trump explained to a NewsNation reporter, adding that he would revoke Temporary Protected Status. "I'd revoke it, and I'd bring them back to their country."

The Republican presidential candidate emphasized that Haiti would be forced to take back their people, with Trump telling a reporter, "Well, they're going to receive them, they'll receive them. If I bring them back, they're going to receive them." During his first administration, President Trump utilized tariffs and other forceful tactics with foreign leaders to ensure they took back migrants who were being deported or to force authorities to crack down on illegal immigration en route to the United States.

Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) attempted to explain the impact of Temporary Protected Status on the immigration process during the vice presidential debate, but the moderators cut off his microphone during his explanation. "In Springfield, Ohio, and in communities all across this country, you've got schools that are overwhelmed, you've got hospitals that are overwhelmed, you've got housing that is totally unaffordable because we've brought in millions of illegal immigrants to compete with Americans for scarce homes," the Ohio Republican said. "The people that I'm most worried about are the American citizens that have had their lives destroyed by Kamala Harris' open border. It is a disgrace."

After Vance's response on immigration, CBS News moderators Norah O'Donnell and Margaret Brennan attempted to fact-check Vance by stating that the Haitian migrants in Springfield were in the country legally. In response to the fact-check, which was against the rules of the debate, the Ohio senator attempted to correct the record. "The rules were that you guys weren't going to fact-check. And since you're fact-checking me. I think it's important to say what's going on," Vance said before explaining that the Biden-Harris administration allows migrants to schedule a parole appointment on the CBP One mobile app when they come through a port of entry.

"There's an application called the CBP One app where you can go on as an illegal migrant, apply for asylum, or apply for parole and be granted legal status at the wave of a Kamala Harris open border wand. That is not a person coming in, applying for a green card, and waiting for ten years. That is the facilitation of illegal immigration by our own leadership. And Kamala Harris opened up that pathway," Vance said. After allowing Walz to try to fact-check Vance, the moderators cut the microphones of both candidates.
