During a visit to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California on Tuesday, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) told the audience that their governor, Gavin Newsom, should never step foot in the White House given his terrible, anti-liberty record running the most populous state in the Union.
When he was asked by a member of the audience what Republicans in the Golden State could do to get "the country back," Sen. Paul responded, "Never, ever let Gavin Newsom near the White House."
"Never again should we let them lock us down. Never again should we be put into this situation," the Kentucky Republican explained. "Never again should we allow them to come into our schools; never again should we let them set one foot into our churches." Paul then added that it would be a competition between Newsom and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) to see who would be worse for the country if they made it to the White House.
"My advice as an outsider," he told the California Republicans. "I think that diversity, for diversity's sake, is not a great idea. The idea is that we are people from different places, and we need more people from different places to be at the party. So we do need a more diverse party," Paul said, adding that Republicans should be encouraging first-generation legal immigrants who want to run for office as a Republican.
"We have to be a bigger party...You have to be more welcoming to people. I'm not saying you're not, but we have to do something to become a bigger party. Some of that is attitude," he explained. "Complement the work that people do and don't assume that everybody is a non-worker or that everybody is here to steal from the welfare system, but none of that means that I'd let anybody in illegally. I'd put every one of them back on the other side of the border."
"Liberty requires eternal vigilance. I'm going to keep fighting with every breath I have," Sen. Paul added.
A poll taken late last year of California voters found that Gov. Newsom's job approval is disapproved by 49 percent of Californians while only 44 percent approve. While California is a Democrat stronghold, it has the biggest population of Republican voters in the country, given its population of nearly 40 million. California has been the Democrat model of governance for decades, but Republicans in the state, as Sen. Paul said, should work tirelessly to ensure that liberty remains constant.
