During a recent interview with MSNBC, Hollywood actor Robert De Niro once again reiterated his attacks on presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump whom he compared to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
When asked by the MSNBC host about why De Niro was "making himself a target" by going after Trump, De Niro responded by telling his fellow actors to take a stand or else America could end up like 1930s Germany. "The idea to be bullied at my age by someone like this is not happening," De Niro said. "I think other people are going to have to stand up, and it's either that or you are going to find yourself in a situation that's so terrifying. We always hear about people from Eastern Europe. The Jews from other parts of Eastern Europe, from Western Europe coming over. Look what happened in France. And with the Nazis... Imagine what those people went through. I'm just starting to see it."
"You know, as a kid, I'd say Hitler, it's a nightmare that never would happen. But now I see that it's possible," the Academy Award winner added. De Niro has been a longtime critic of the former president, telling Bill Maher in March that Trump is a "total monster" who would go after him if he was re-elected. "He's such a mean, nasty, hateful person. I'd never play him as an actor because I can't see any good in him," Maher told the HBO host. "Nothing. Nothing at all. Nothing redeemable in him. I just don't want to feel the way I did. And many of us don't."
"It can't be. It cannot be. If he wins the election, you won't be on this show anymore. He'll come looking for me. [There will] be things that happen that none of us can imagine. That's what happens in that kind of a dictatorship, which is what he says [he wants]. Let's believe him. Take him at his word," De Niro added. "He is a dangerous person. [People] somehow think he's going to be the answer to their prayers, whatever those are, God knows. People decide whether they want to oppose him or they want to let him just tell them what to do and own the schoolyard or the basketball court or whatever it is. He's got to be stopped."
De Niro's constant attacks haven't gone unanswered, with Trump taking to Truth Social earlier this year to write, "Robert DeNiro has a terminal case of Trump Derangement Syndrome. Such a stupid sounding guy, a low IQ individual."
