On Sunday, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), former GOP presidential candidate and potential contender for Trump's vice presidential nominee, told NBC's 'Meet The Press' that the presumptive GOP nominee could reveal his running mate in the next two months after several prominent GOP leaders joined Trump for a high-profile donor event in Palm Beach, Florida.
The event, which included prominent guests like Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), Sen. Martha Blackburn (R-TN), Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD), Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX), and Rep. Michael Waltz (R-FL), was seen by many to be an audition for Trump's vice president. However, Scott revealed that there was no mention of who would be the 45th president's running mate.
"I certainly didn't bring it up," Scott said. "I'm excited that in this nation, a poor kid from South Carolina can rise to the level of being a United States senator. It just tells me that all things are possible for kids growing up in poverty today to listen to this show and know that all things are possible for your future."
The South Carolina senator then explained that a large portion of the event revolved around the various issues created by the Biden administration, including a struggling economy, brought about by Bidenomics. "We had a lot of conversations around the room about the importance of eliminating Bidenomics, about the importance of getting inflation back down to 2%," he told the NBC host. "We were just better off under President Trump."
According to Newsmax, 'Meet The Press' anchor Kristen Welker also asked Scott whether he would accept the results of the 2024 election, to which Scott responded, "At the end of the day, the 47th president of the United States will be President Donald Trump. I'm excited to get back to low inflation, low unemployment." When pressed multiple times by the host, Scott refused to elaborate on his answer, eventually telling Welker, "I look forward to President Trump being the 47th president. Kristen, you can ask it multiple times. The American people will make the decision, and the decision will be for President Trump."
Despite the former presidential candidate's assertion that there was no talk of who would be the vice presidential nominee on the Republican ticket in November, Trump seemed to hint at one of those in attendance being his possible choice. In a Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump reposted a picture of the donor retreat attendees on stage with him alongside a caption from Benny Johnson that read, "Is Donald Trump's VP pick on this stage?"
While Trump is keeping his cards close to his chest about his running mate, the person he selects will need to be a formidable representative for President Trump as he navigates various court appearances in the coming months. The Republican nominee is anticipated to unveil his choice before the Republican National Convention in mid-July in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
