WATCH: Senator Chuck Grassley SLAMS Merrick Garland Over Hunter Biden Investigation – ‘The American People Have a Right to Know’

Yesterday hearings were held between Biden’s Attorney General of the United States, Merrick Garland, and the United States Senate. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IO) had earlier that day tweeted that “2day at 9am Iowa time Atty General Garland testifies b4 Sen Judiciary Cmte Will he answer my questions & give the American ppl the answers they deserve??? Transparency brings accountability.” Many of the 89-year-old senator’s questions revolved around the status of the ongoing probe into Hunter Biden, the president’s son who is under investigation for tax fraud, illegal foreign lobbying, money laundering, and lying about his drug abuse to obtain a gun.

Mr. Grassley during the hearing noted that “[r]ecent lawfully protected whistleblower disclosures to my office indicate that the Justice Department and FBI had — at one time — over a dozen sources that provided potentially criminal information relating to Hunter Biden. The alleged volume and similarity of information would demand that the Justice Department investigate the truth and accuracy of the information.”

The elder senator then inquired, “Accordingly, what steps has the Justice Department taken to determine the truth and accuracy of the information provided?” He then added that “Congress and the American people have a right to know.”

Merrick Garland evaded a clear answer by professing that he had fulfilled his pledge to allow an independent investigation to happen under the Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss and that any questions about the status of this investigation should be directed to Mr. Weiss.

Senator Grassley followed up by asking, “Has the Delaware US attorney sought permission of another US Attorney’s Office, such as in the District of Columbia or California, to bring charges? If so, was it denied?”

BIDEN’S  CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS WERE ‘IN A LOCKED GARAGE’— BUT DID HUNTER HAVE THE KEYS?

Mr. Garland said he was unaware if Weiss did so but maintained that “he is not to be denied anything that he needs, and if that were to happen, it should ascend through the department’s ranks, and I have not heard anything from that office to suggest that they are not able to do everything that the US attorney wants to do.”

Senator Grassley then said, “Well, let me give you my view. If Weiss, the US attorney there in Delaware, must seek permission from a [President] Biden-appointed US attorney to bring charges, then the Hunter Biden criminal investigation isn’t insulated from political interference, as you publicly proclaimed.”

In effect, Mr. Grassley questioned whether Garland really had allowed an independent probe to commence if Mr. Weiss could only press charges if Biden’s appointed attorneys agreed. This power that Biden-appointed individuals had over the investigation would – as Mr. Grassley suggests – constitute a potential conflict of interest.

As the New York Post noted, however,” [i]t was not immediately clear if the scenario Grassley referenced was merely hypothetical. Neither a spokesman for the Iowa Republican nor the Delaware US Attorney’s Office responded to requests for clarification.”

Mr. Grassley’s closing question pressed Mr. Garland on whether he believed that “improper or unlawful” payments from foreign powers to “elected officials or other politically-exposed persons” constituted valid national security concerns.

The Attorney General replied that “If it’s an agent of a foreign government asking someone and paying someone to do things to support that foreign government in secret, yes, I definitely think that would be a national security problem.”
