WATCH: Speaker Mike Johnson Defends Trump At Manhattan Court House - 'Nonsense And Corruption'

On Tuesday, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) joined presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump at the courthouse in Manhattan where the 'hush money' case against him is entering its second day of testimony from the prosecution's star witness, Michael Cohen. Before entering the courthouse, Speaker Johnson spoke with reporters, explaining that the American people are "disgusted" by the weaponization of the legal system against Trump.

"The crime that they are accusing President Trump of is falsification of business records, but I think everybody knows he is not the bookkeeper for his company," Johnson began. "President Trump is innocent of these charges, and again, anyone with common sense can understand what's happening here. In the midst of all this nonsense and corruption, they have placed a ridiculous and unprecedented gag order on President Trump. They are overriding his constitutional rights to defend himself from political smears from his harshest critics at the most important time."

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Judge Merchan threatened to throw Trump in jail if he continued to violate the gag order imposed on him by the court. The gag order against Trump restricts him from commenting on witnesses in the case, jurors, and others involved.

"He is soon to be officially the nominee of one of the major parties in our country, running for president," the Louisiana Republican continued. "They have him tied up here in this ridiculous prosecution that's not about justice, it's all about politics. Everybody can see that. President Trump is leading in swing state polls."

"The American people see right through these politically motivated attacks. I've been in 102 cities and over half the states in the last few months, and I can tell you that no matter where we are around the country, I've been doing large events, and people from all walks of life come to these events and they are concerned about this," he explained. "They are disgusted about this. They are fed up. They've had enough because they see what's happening. It's impossible for anyone to deny that looks at this objectively that the judicial system in our country has been weaponized against President Trump. The system is using all of its tools at its disposal right now to punish one president to provide cover for another."

Speaker Johnson was joined in the court by former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy (R-OH), Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL), his son Eric Trump, and RNC co-chair Lara Trump.
