Presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump met with Congressional Republicans on Thursday in his first appearance in the nation's capitol since being convicted last month. The meetings, which covered a wide array of policy priorities and Trump's vision for his second term, were described by Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) as enthusiastic and filled with energy.
"It was our great pleasure to host the president this morning, the 45th president, who will soon be reelected as a 47th president," Speaker Johnson told the press, adding that the 45th president brought "an extraordinary amount of energy and excitement and enthusiasm this morning."
"Many of us are traveling the country. I do it endlessly. I've been in 29 states and done events in 123 cities. We go to blue states and swing districts and everywhere in between, and there is something happening in the country," Johnson said. "He's feeling and seeing that as well. He had 107,000 people turn out to a rally in New Jersey. He's going coast to coast, as we are, and we're all seeing the same thing."
Johnson explained that the upcoming election will be the "most consequential election in our lifetime" and perhaps in a century. He added that the GOP is "headed for a great November" and that he is encouraged by polling that shows that the election is trending in the right direction.
"We will not waste a moment. We will be working on a very aggressive agenda to fix all the great problems facing this country right now," Johnson explained. "We talked about how to grow this House majority, how he will help in doing so, and then how we'll help him as well. This is a unified effort by the party. We're feeling good." The speaker then explained that one of the members came up to him after the meeting and that he felt more confident about the party's future right now than in the four previous decades he's served in politics.
"I think that is probably a good indication of how people are feeling out there in the country. Something is happening. And we're excited about that," Johnson concluded, as reported by Breitbart. Trump's meeting with Congressional Republicans on Thursday begins a new era of unity within the Republican Party as every party member, irrespective of policy differences, joins together to defeat the Democrats in November. With a unified front behind him, Trump's road to the White House and a governing majority in 2025 will be just around the corner.
