WATCH: Surveillance Footage Shows Moment Of Niagara Falls Car Explosion

On Wednesday, a car explosion occurred on the Rainbow Bridge connecting Niagara Falls, New York, and Canada. According to law enforcement, the explosion took place on the US side of the bridge and it was being driven from the United States into Canada. The FBI is currently on the scene, and early images of the explosion show a large blaze overtaking the vehicle after it crashed into a Customs and Border Patrol building.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D-NY) has been briefed on the incident, and all international bridges between Canada and New York have been closed. One border patrol officer was injured in the attack and one civilian suffered minor injuries. The driver and the passenger of the vehicle were both killed in the attack.

"I have been briefed on the situation that occurred at the Rainbow Bridge in Buffalo," Gov. Hochul said in a statement. "At my direction, the New York State Police is actively working with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force to monitor all points of entry to New York. I am traveling to Buffalo to meet with law enforcement and emergency responders and will update New Yorkers when more information becomes available."

The vehicle was reportedly being driven by two individuals, and it was packed with explosives.  "The FBI Buffalo Field Office is investigating a vehicle explosion at the Rainbow Bridge, a border crossing between the US and Canada in Niagara Falls," the FBI said in a statement.  "The FBI is coordinating with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners in this investigation. As this situation is very fluid, that's all we can say at this time."
