WATCH: Taiwanese Boxer With Male Chromosomes Defeats Female Opponent At Olympics

On Friday, Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-Ting, a controversial boxer who failed a gender test last year, defeated a female opponent, Sitora Turdibekova from Uzbekistan, handily at the Paris Olympics. The match was yet another instance of a boxer with XY chromosomes, the genetic marker that identifies a biological male, defeating a female opponent after female boxer Angela Carini, who fought against opponent Imane Khelif of Algeria, was forced to forfeit the fight after just 46 seconds in the ring.

Yu-Ting failed a gender test in 2023 conducted by the International Boxing Association (IBA) and was thus barred from international competition. The match concluded with Yu-Ting, the decisive winner, and Turdibekova, who was seen in tears. The two did not shake hands as they left the ring.

In response to the two fighters, the IBA, which was not included in the International Olympic Committee (IOC), explained that the World Boxing Tournaments had barred both Yu-Ting and Khelif from competition in 2022 and 2023. "We absolutely do not understand why any organization would put a boxer at risk with what could bring a potential serious injury within the 'Field of Play' (FOP). The main role of the referee in the ring is to manage the boxer's safety at all times," the IBA said in a statement. "How is this reasonably practicable when a boxer fails to meet the eligibility criteria to compete?"

"The IBA will never support any boxing bouts between the genders, as the organization puts the safety and well-being of our athletes first. We are protecting our women and their rights to compete in the ring against equal rivals, and we will defend and support them in all instances; their hopes and dreams must never be taken away by organizations unwilling to do the right thing under difficult circumstances," the organization added. "IBA stands by its position and will continue to support all athletes within the spirit of the rules."

Critics on social media mirrored the IBA's concern with Chaya Raichik, the founder of LibsOfTikTok, writing, "Lin Yu-ting, a Taiwanese boxer who was banned from the Women's World Boxing Championships after testing positive for XY chromosomes, just punched female boxer Sitora Turdibekova in the face on live TV. He was declared the winner. Yu-ting is not a winner. He is a cheater."

"For the 2nd day in a row, a biological male 'won' women's boxing at the Olympics," the account End Wokeness wrote. Women's rights activist Riley Gaines also condemned the two boxers, writing, "The people who don't believe a Y chromosome makes you male are the same ones who believe a woman can have a penis."
