On Thursday, presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump revealed outside a Manhattan courtroom that his campaign is planning a massive campaign rally at Madison Square Garden and the South Bronx as Trump continues to campaign in the Empire State.
"And I think we have a good chance of winning New York. We're going to give it a big play," Trump explained. "We're going to go to the South Bronx to do a rally and we're going to do a rally at Madison Square Garden. We'll be honoring the people who make New York work. We're honoring a lot of people. It will be very exciting."
The former president is currently facing 34 felony charges in the indictment brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D). Despite being forced to remain in Manhattan by Judge Juan Merchan amid an ongoing presidential campaign, Trump has been making the best of the situation. He has held multiple campaign events throughout the Big Apple, including at a bodega earlier this month.
Trump was welcomed to the Sanaa Convenient Store, formerly the Blue Moon Convenient Store, by scores of cheering New Yorkers who shouted, "We love Trump" and "Four more years!" Trump met with co-owner Maad Ahmed and small business activist Francisco Marte, per The New York Post. The location is central to one of Trump's key campaign pillars: law and order. The bodega was the sight of a brutal assault of 61-year-old store clerk Jose Alba, who ended up killing his attacker, ex-convict Austin Simon, in self-defense. The district attorney's office brought charges against Alba following the incident, but after immense public backlash, the charges were dropped, and the assaulted store clerk sued the city.
Trump also held an early morning campaign rally at a Manhattan construction site with union workers. Trump took pictures and shook hands with the union members and various supporters who came out to see him. The crowd, which chanted "USA" and "We want Trump," was largely made up of members of the local Steamfitters union chapter.
In addition to holding various campaign events both before and after his courtroom appearances, Trump has also met with foreign dignitaries at Trump Tower, including with former Polish President Andrzej Duda and former Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso. The Republican leader also met with Argentinian President Javier Milei in February, a meeting that reportedly annoyed the Biden White House.
As Democrats continue to pursue relentless lawfare against Trump and his allies, the 45th president isn't letting it slowdown his race for the White House. While Trump lost his home state of New York in 2020 by over 20 points, recent polls show that the gap between the two candidates is narrowing. According to Five Thirty Eight, Trump has been able to narrow Biden's lead in the Empire State substantially, with Biden leading Trump by around 10 points , with some polling that included independent candidates showing Trump only trailing Biden by seven points.
