WATCH: Trump Reacts To Harris Attempting To Change Debate Rules - 'They're Trying To Get Out Of It'

During a visit to a Vietnamese restaurant in Falls Church, Virginia, on Monday, President Donald Trump reacted to news that Vice President Kamala Harris is attempting to change the rules of the upcoming debate with ABC News on September 10. The Harris campaign, which has refused to do additional debates on other networks, initially insisted that Team Trump stick to the rules negotiated with President Biden's campaign before he dropped out. However, Team Harris has now insisted that the two candidates do the debate sitting down, allow each candidate to bring notes, and have the microphones remain on to allow interruptions.

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, sources familiar with the negotiations between the Harris campaign and Team Trump revealed that Harris wants to unmute the mics to try to get Trump to interrupt her. "She's more than happy to have exchanges with him if he tries to interrupt her. And given how shook he seems by her, he's very prone to having intemperate outbursts and… I think the campaign would want viewers to hear [that]," the source explained.

In response to the attempt to change the rules just 15 days before the first debate between Harris and Trump, the Republican candidate said that the Harris campaign was actually trying to get out of the debate by altering the rules. "The truth is, they're trying to get out of it because she doesn't want to debate. She's not a good debater. She's not a smart person. She doesn't want to debate," Trump said. When asked whether he wanted the mics to be muted when the other candidate was speaking, Trump said that he would have liked the mics to be unmuted during the Biden debate but insisted that the same rules be enforced for the upcoming showdown.

"We agreed to the same rules. I don't know. It doesn't matter to me. I'd rather have it probably on, but the agreement was that it would be the same as it was last time. In that case, it was muted," the 45th president said. "I didn't like it the last time, but it worked out fine. I mean, ask Biden how it worked out. It was fine, and I think it should be the same. We agreed to the same rules, same rules, and same specifications, and I think that's probably what it should be, but they're trying to change it. The truth is they're trying to get out of it because she doesn't want to debate. She's not a good debater. She's not a smart person. She doesn't want to debate."

President Trump and Sen. Vance have been answering questions from the press, holding interviews, and offering multiple debates to showcase their ideas to the American people. At the same time, Vice President Harris and Gov. Walz continue to refuse to answer questions about their policies. The American people deserve transparency from those asking to occupy the world's most powerful office, and Kamala Harris' refusal to be upfront with the American people showcases her disrespect for the voters. The debate will be one of the few occasions voters will hear from her directly, and she should be allowed to explain her vision to the country uninterrupted.
