WATCH: Trump Speaks Out After Visiting With Family Of Murdered NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller

On Thursday, presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump traveled to Massapequa, New York, on Long Island to attend the wake of NYPD officer Jonathan Diller. Diller, who leaves behind his wife Stephanie and a one-year-old son, was shot and killed in Queens on Monday by a career criminal. Following his visit, Trump spoke with the press to demand change and a return of "law and order."

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Officer Diller and his partner were carrying out a traffic stop on two suspects for parking at a bus stop. One of the suspects, identified as 34-year-old Guy Rivera, who was illegally in possession of a firearm, decided he didn't want to return to prison, so he opened fire and hit Diller beneath his protective vest. His partner opened fire on the suspect, striking him in the back. Once Rivera was apprehended, officers quickly rushed Diller to Jamaica Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. The suspect, who has had 21 prior arrests, was also taken to Jamaica Hospital and is in stable condition.

"What happened is such a sad event. Such a horrible thing, and it's happening all too often," Trump said after visiting with the Diller family. "We just aren't going to let it happen; we just can't. Twenty-one times arrested this thug. The person in the car with him was arrested many times. They don't learn because they don't respect. They're not given the respect. Police are the greatest people we have. There's nobody like them, and this should never happen."

"I just visited with a very beautiful wife who now doesn't have her husband. Stephanie was just incredible. Their child, a brand new beautiful baby sitting there innocent as can be, doesn't know how his life has been changed. But the Diller family will never be the same. Can never be the same," Trump explained. "We have to stop it. We have to get back to law and order. We have to do a lot of things differently because this is not working. This is happening too often. It is an honor to be here."

"These are incredible people who are just devastated. It's going to be a tough road," Trump concluded. While the future ahead for the Diller family will be rocky, Americans across the country have pitched in to help them in their time of need. A GoFundMe campaign has raised over $575,000 for Diller's widow and his one-year-old son, and Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has raised an additional $1.5 million.
