During an interview on "Fox & Friends" on Wednesday morning, President Donald Trump reacted to Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate pick, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN). Trump, who posted the day prior "Thank you!" in reaction to the pick, said that he was "thrilled" that the "very liberal man" was chosen to be the Democrats' vice presidential pick.
"He's a very, very liberal man, and he's a shocking pick. I could not be more thrilled," Trump said. "If you look at his record with no walls, no security, let everybody in. He's worse than they are. Nobody knew how radical left she was, but he's a smarter version of her, if you want to know the truth."
"There's never been a ticket like this. This is a ticket that would want this country to go communist immediately, if not sooner," the president continued. "We want no security. We want no anything. He's very heavy into transgender. Anything transgender he thinks is great, and he's not where the country is on anything."
Trump then recalled one of the few times that he interacted with the governor during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdowns. The Republican nominee explained to the Fox hosts that Walz called him to ask if he would convince anti-lockdown protesters, who were demonstrating outside the governor's home, to leave.
"They only had one guard. I guess it was at the mansion or his house in some form," Trump explained. "And he called me, and I said, 'What do you want me to do about it?' I was in the White House. He said, 'If you would put out the word that I'm a good person, and I did, I put out the word I said, 'He's a good person. I hope everything's good.' And everybody put down their flags and took their flags with them. But they took the American flags and their MAGA flags, and they left it. It was thousands of people."
While Trump was glad that Walz joined Harris at the top of the ticket given the ease to target his progressive policies, the Trump campaign proved the point. After Kamala Harris' announcement on Tuesday, Trump national press secretary Karoline Leavitt attacked the Minessota governor for his gubernatorial record.
"It's no surprise that San Francisco Liberal Kamala Harris wants West Coast wannabe Tim Walz as her running-mate – Walz has spent his governorship trying to reshape Minnesota in the image of the Golden State," Trump campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement. "While Walz pretends to support Americans in the Heartland, when the cameras are off, he believes that rural America is 'mostly cows and rocks'. From proposing his own carbon-free agenda, to suggesting stricter emission standards for gas-powered cars, and embracing policies to allow convicted felons to vote, Walz is obsessed with spreading California's dangerously liberal agenda far and wide."
"If Walz won't tell voters the truth, we will: just like Kamala Harris, Tim Walz is a dangerously liberal extremist, and the Harris-Walz California dream is every American's nightmare," she added.
