WATCH: Union Workers Chant 'We Want Trump' During Early Morning NYC Campaign Stop

In an early morning campaign stop before appearing in court on Thursday, presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump was welcomed by a huge crowd of union workers at a construction site in Manhattan. The crowd, which chanted "USA" and "We want Trump," was largely made up of members of the local Steamfitters union chapter.

While at the site, Trump took pictures and shook hands with the union members and various supporters who came out to see him. Trump also spoke to the press, explaining that the current case before the Supreme Court to determine if he has presidential immunity in the 2020 election case brought by special counsel Jack Smith will be "big."

"We have a big case today – this judge wouldn't allow me to go, but we have a big case today at the Supreme Court on presidential immunity," Trump said at the 6:30 AM event. "A president has to have immunity. If you don't have immunity, you just have a ceremonial president."

Trump's presence at the construction site seemed to invigorate some of the hard-working New Yorkers who built the city's skyline. According to The New York Post, Darren Gould, a 58-year-old general foreman carpenter, explained that unions in New York are backing Trump in increasing numbers. "Trump got a great reception. They say unions aren't big for Trump — well, they are," he said. "Maybe the top union brass aren't, but when you talk to the men on the construction site, they're all about Trump."

The Steamfitters union boss Bobby Bartels seemed to agree with Gould, telling Fox News that a large majority of his 9,000 members are backing the president in November. "I put out a poll in my union. President Trump is leading Joe Biden 3 to 1 in my presidential poll out of my 9,000 members. We are very tired of the situation with groceries, inflation, gas prices, illegal immigration, [and] crime," Bartels told Fox News. "We are living it every day in New York City."

"They are very agitated. They are living week to week, some of them are not affording their bills, and I think things need to change," the union boss said. "Members have basically told me, 'Listen, we want to vote for this guy,' so when the time is right, and I have a bigger poll to be done, we will make that decision, but I will do whatever my members want me to do."

While Trump lost his home state of New York in 2020 by over 20 points, recent polls show that the gap between the two candidates is narrowing. According to Five Thirty Eight, Trump has been able to narrow Biden's lead in the Empire State substantially with Biden leading Trump by around 10 points with some polling that included independent candidates showing Trump only trailing Biden by seven points.
