On Sunday, TIME Magazine owner Marc Benioff slammed Vice President Kamala Harris for refusing to interview with the magazine. This is in stark contrast to 45th President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden, both of whom sat down for lengthy interviews with the magazine earlier this year. The condemnation comes as the Harris campaign attempts to point out President Trump as running away from media interviews and refusing to be transparent with the public.
"Despite multiple requests, TIME has not been granted an interview with Kamala Harris—unlike every other Presidential candidate. We believe in transparency and publish each interview in full," Marc Benioff wrote. Why isn't the Vice President engaging with the public on the same level?" The Harris campaign refuses to allow an interview with TIME Magazine as Vice President Harris attempts to argue that Trump's campaign staff are shielding him from interviews.
"His staff won't let him do a '60 Minutes' interview," Harris told Roland Martin during an interview on Monday. "Every president for the last half-century has done one, anyone who's running for president — everyone has done it except Donald Trump." The Republican presidential candidate explained that he refused to appear on "60 Minutes" after Leslie Stahl refused to apologize after rejecting the Hunter Biden laptop story during her interview with Trump in 2020.
Despite the explanation, Harris has made Trump's dodging of the interview a central talking point and has connected his refusal to sit down with "60 Minutes" and his refusal to participate in another debate as a sign of instability. "He will not debate me again. I put out my medical records. He won't put out his medical records. And you have to ask: Why is his staff doing that?" Harris asked, as reported by The Washington Times. "It may be because they think he's just not ready and unfit and unstable and should not have that level of transparency for the American people. There's a real choice in this election."
While Harris has refused to sit for an interview with TIME Magazine, she has begun to crisscross the media world as she makes her final pitch to voters heading to the polls in the coming weeks. Last week, Harris appeared on "Late Night with Stephen Colbert," "60 Minutes," ABC's "The View," and "The Howard Stern Show." The Democratic candidate will hold multiple interviews this week, including an interview with Roland Martin, The Shade Room, and "The Breakfast Club," as she tries to shore up support from black voters. Harris will also sit down for an interview with Bret Baier on Fox News, as previously reported by the DC Enquirer.
While Vice President Harris attempts to argue that Trump is hiding from the media, the 45th president has made multiple appearances on podcasts for hour-long conversations in recent weeks as he attempts to court young male voters. Trump has also participated in multiple cable news interviews on Fox News and other platforms. His running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), has also been a regular guest on corporate media like ABC News, CNN, CBS News, and NBC News.
