On Tuesday, 45th president and 2024 presidential contender Donald Trump explained that if he were president he would “have a deal made in 24 hours” in order to bring peace to Ukraine.
The statement comes as President Joe Biden visited Ukraine on President’s Day and made a speech the following day in Warsaw, Poland restating the U.S.’ resolve to continue to fund their army with weaponry over a year after Russian President Vladimir Putin launched his “special military operation” into Ukraine.
“From the night I won, I would call two people,” Trump said during an event at the newly renamed Club47. “You know who the two people are? Putin, right you know who Putin is, and Zelensky.”
“I’d say ‘We’re gonna meet.’ I guarantee that I could work that out. I know exactly what I would say by the way,” he continued. “I’d tell one guy this and I’d tell one guy that and I would say you better make a deal. We would have a deal made in 24 hours.”
This isn’t the first time that Trump has called for peace and negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
BREAKING: TRUMP ALONE CALLS FOR PEACE – BIDEN ESCALATES TO WHAT HE CALLED ‘WORLD WAR III’ IN UKRAINE
In January, following Biden’s announcement that he would send tanks to the Ukrainian armed force, President Trump wrote on Truth Social that “FIRST COME THE TANKS, THEN COME THE NUKES. Get this crazy war ended, NOW. So easy to do!”
“IF I WERE PRESIDENT, THE RUSSIA/UKRAINE WAR WOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED,” he continued, adding, “BUT EVEN NOW, IF PRESIDENT, I WOULD BE ABLE TO NEGOTIATE AN END TO THIS HORRIBLE AND RAPIDLY ESCALATING WAR WITHIN 24 HOURS. SUCH A TRAGIC WASTE OF HUMAN LIFE!!!”
As President Biden announces another half billion dollars in aid to Ukraine, President Trump is calling for peace. That contrast will surely come into play during the 2024 presidential election and Americans will have to ask themselves who should lead the country forward.
President Trump has showcased his ability to put America First whereas President Biden has refused to offer Putin an offramp and instead opts for continued war. President Biden’s decision to not negotiate will lead to hundreds of thousands more Ukrainians dying in a war that will eventually have to come to a settled, peaceful resolution. Biden’s refusal to broker peace forestalls the inevitable.
