Democrat activist Al Sharpton delivered one of the most uninformed takes on history during an MSNBC panel, asking what the world would look like if our founding fathers had attempted to overthrow the government.
As previously covered by the DC Enquirer, Trump was indicted on four different charges, those being conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of an attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.
Sharpton was discussing these most recent indictments against Trump related to the January 6th riots when he made the comments that have absolutely baffled anyone who has the slightest understanding of American history.
“One day our children will read American history and can you imagine our [children] reading that James Madison or Thomas Jefferson tried to overthrow the government so they could stay in power? That’s what we’re looking at, we’re looking at American history," Sharpton said.
Now, the activist thought he surely had a zinger with that line but since the airing of the panel, users on social media have been absolutely tearing him apart for being so uninformed. Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy (R) responded, writing, “It was called the American Revolution. We were successful. We won.” “Utterly bizarre. Apparently, Dems no longer study the Declaration of Independence or the Revolutionary War….” Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) tweeted. Daily Wire host Matt Walsh joked, writing, “Can you imagine if Micheal Jordan played basketball?” Accomplished actor James Wood wrote “Card-carrying ignoramus asks us to imagine if Thomas Jefferson or James Madison tried to overthrow the government. Then he lectures us on understanding history. This chucklehead might try reading history first. It was laughable when he was a fat slob in a velour track suit. Now that he’s an anorexic scarecrow, it’s just mildly pathetic.” Former 'The View' host Meghan McCain wrote, “A fifth grader in social studies class could give better analysis. I can't believe this is real life.” The statement from Sharpton goes a long way to just completely invalidate much of what he says in general. For someone who pushes so hard for change in America to not even understand American history shows just how ignorant he really is.
