During a press conference on Wednesday, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) attacked President Biden for his handling of the border crisis and maintained that the drug cartels control the border more than Biden's administration which "sits around doing nothing" about the problem.
"The U.S. is supposed to be the world's leading superpower, and yet we can't even maintain control of our own southern border?" asked DeSantis, according to Fox News.
"The Mexican drug cartels have more to say about what goes on at the southern border than our own U.S. government does. Where is this president's energy? Where is his vigor? Where is his commitment to the cause? He is just sitting around doing nothing of importance or nothing of note while the American people suffer," DeSantis said. "There is just no rule of law. It's been tossed out the window."
The governor of the Sunshine State expressed frustration over how Martha's Vineyard, a wealthy Massachusetts community, freaked out over 50 migrants being sent there when poor border towns are being overwhelmed by much larger influxes that consume needed resources. "Well look at some of these other places. They're getting thousands of people coming illegally, and yet they're just supposed to grin and bear it" vented DeSantis about the complaint that Martha's Vineyard did not have the resources necessary to care for the migrants
During the presser, DeSantis vowed that "Florida will not be a sanctuary state that allows for illegal aliens to usurp our laws. IDs issued by sanctuary jurisdictions will be invalidated in the state of Florida and using a fake ID to obtain employment will now be treated as a felony."
Governor DeSantis emphasized that he had taken steps to proactively protect Florida from the migrant crisis. "President Biden’s dereliction of duty at the border is costing Americans their lives. In Florida, we’ve taken concrete action to protect our communities by: - Relocating illegal aliens to sanctuary cities in other states - Enforcing E-Verify - Establishing a task force to interdict illegal aliens - Invalidating out of state IDs used to gain unlawful employment - Making it a felony to knowingly smuggle and transport aliens in Florida," tweeted DeSantis.Florida will not be a sanctuary state that allows for illegal aliens to usurp our laws.

There is strong speculation that DeSantis is prepared to formally enter the 2024 Republican presidential primary and challenge the current Republican frontrunner, Donald J. Trump. DeSantis has a lot cut out for him should he do so given that polls have not been going the governor's way so far. DeSantis's entering into the arena would certainly be a high-risk run.President Biden’s dereliction of duty at the border is costing Americans their lives.
