Tens Of Thousands Cross Southern Border As Migrants Allowed To Enter Country With Court Appearance Dates Set For 2035

As part of the ongoing southern border crisis, exacerbated as a result of the end of Title 42Fox News has reported that the head of U.S. Border Patrol has authorized the release of illegal migrants into the U.S. without court dates if agents face overcrowding as the Biden administration scrambles to deal with a historic surge. This move, however, was blocked by a Florida federal judge on Thursday evening. That hasn't stopped Border Patrol from releasing migrants with court dates as far out as 2027 or even 2035.

As reported by the New York Post, migrants entering near Brownsville, Texas are recieving court appearence dates as far out as 2035 as they are allowed to enter the country promising that they will show up in court more than a decade later.

Additionally, the Biden administration has set up new rules to deal with migrants crossing illegally. As The Wall Street Journal reports, illegal aliens are, with few exceptions, "barred from requesting asylum. They also face deportation to Mexico or their country of origin and a five-year ban on re-entry. Anyone caught trying to enter the country again could face criminal charges and prison time. Appointments to make asylum requests must be booked using an online application."

Nonetheless, the surge of migrants seems only to be escalating. It has been estimated that, for example, last Monday, Border Patrol apprehended 10,300 migrants at the US-Mexico border in one day.

This surge in illegal migrants trying to enter the United States is a phenomenon that has only worsened since the Biden administration took office. In 2022, for example, Border Patrol made at least 1.82 million arrests on the southern border. No wonder that the Senate Republican Conference called the current situation the "worst border crisis in American history."

Republicans have taken action, in so far as they have any power to do something, to pressure the Biden administration to take more effective measures for border control and security. Responding to the crisis, the state of Florida passed legislation that makes using E-Verify mandatory for any employer with 25 or more employees. At the same time, the Florida government also sued the Biden administration so that it was stopped from its proposed plan to parole migrants crossing the southern border. Additionally, House Republicans passed new asylum seeker restrictions as a way of compensating for the end of Title 42. However, President Joe Biden promised to veto the bill if it were to make it to his desk.

Unfortunately, as the press has reported, "the American Civil Liberties Union, joined by several other immigrant-rights organizations, filed an immediate legal challenge Thursday night against the new rules, saying they illegally restrict asylum access beyond what existing laws intend."

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, the problem with our current border policies adversely affects less-educated American workers, threatens our national security, and also drains our economy. In short, President Ronald Reagan was right when he said that "a nation that cannot control its borders is not a nation."
