On Friday, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D) admitted in a court document that she had a personal relationship with Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor on the Trump case who has alleged to be involved with a corrupt scheme with Willis after being paid an exorbitant salary. In response, 45th President Trump deemed Willis' case to be a "scam" and "totally discredited."
In the lengthy document submitted to the court on Friday, Willis admitted to the personal relationship but argued that the allegations against her are "meritless" and "salacious." She went on to argue that the judge should reject any attempt by Trump or the various co-defendants from attempting to get her removed from the case. She also argued that there was no evidence that the relationship between Wade and herself impacted the case.
As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Nathan Wade's estranged wife, Joycelyn Wade, submitted a document to the Cobb County courthouse showing that the special prosecutor had paid for plane tickets for Fani Willis and himself to San Fransisco and Miami. The submission of the document comes after former Trump aid Michael Roman's lawyer Ashleigh Merchant filed a motion arguing that the duo prosecuting Trump were engaged in a romantic relationship that led to Willis paying him an exorbitant salary to then spend on lavish vacations. The district has paid Wade over $650,000 since he joined the office in November 2021.
In response to the Fulton County district attorney's confession, Trump took to Truth Social to explain how her pursuit of Trump has allowed Wade to get hundreds of thousands of dollars. "Fani Willis, the D.A. of Fulton County, just admitted to having a sexual relationship with the Prosecutor she, in consultation with the White House and DOJ, appointed to 'GET PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP,'" the leading Republican candidate wrote. "By going after the most high-level person, and the Republican Nominee, she was able to get her 'lover' much more money, almost a Million Dollars, than she would be able to get for the prosecution of any other person or individual. THAT MEANS THAT THIS SCAM IS TOTALLY DISCREDITED & OVER!"
In addition to facing potential legal consequences stemming from her relationship with Wade, the Fulton County DA's office is also under investigation from House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) after a whistleblower accused the office of mishandling $488,000 of federal funds on lavish merchandise like Macbook computers. Jordan subpoenaed Willis's office receipts and the use of federal grant funds. Jordan wrote that DA Willis is required to provide "all documents and communications referring or relating to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office's receipt and use of federal funds, including but not limited to, federal funds from the Department of Justice's Office Programs, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, and Office of Community Oriented Policing Services."
Willis's unethical behavior and potential corruption could end the Georgia case against Trump and legal consequences for the Democrat DA. Her decision to go after Trump to gain national fame has been a double-edged sword as a microscope has been trained on her office's behavior since she was elected in 2020. If the accusations against her are true, Trump may be right about the case being "TOTALLY DISCREDITED & OVER!"
