On Friday, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D) admitted in a court document that she had a personal relationship with Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor on the Trump case who has alleged to be involved with a corrupt scheme with Willis after being paid an exorbitant salary.
In the lengthy document submitted to the court on Friday, Willis admitted to the personal relationship but argued that the allegations against her are "meritless" and "salacious." She went on to argue that the judge should reject any attempt by Trump or the various co-defendants from attempting to get her removed from the case. She also argued that there was no evidence that the relationship between Wade and herself impacted the case, as reported by the Washington Post.
As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Nathan Wade's estranged wife, Joycelyn Wade, submitted a document to the Cobb County courthouse showing that the special prosecutor had paid for plane tickets for Fani Willis and himself to San Fransisco and Miami. The submission of the document comes after former Trump aid Michael Roman's lawyer Ashleigh Merchant filed a motion arguing that the duo prosecuting Trump were engaged in a romantic relationship that led to Willis paying him an exorbitant salary to then spend on lavish vacations. The district has paid wade over $650,000 since he joined the office in November 2021.
In addition to facing potential legal consequences stemming from her relationship with Wade, Willis is also facing articles of impeachment from the Georgia legislature. Last week, Georgia State Representative Charlice Byrd (R) introduced articles of impeachment against Willis following the surfacing of the corruption allegations.
"Fani Willis has a laundry list of potential conflicts that make her unworthy and unfit to be the District Attorney in Fulton County," Rep. Byrd said. "Someone elected to that office is expected to uphold the law and not weaponize their office for political gain. Since Day One when she was elected, Fani Willis has embarrassed the criminal justice system in Fulton County and our state."
This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
