On Friday, a new statement from President Joe Biden released to PEOPLE revealed that the president has finally spoken out about Hunter Biden's love child, four-year-old Navy Joan Roberts, whom the first son fathered with former adult entertainer Lunden Roberts.
“Our son Hunter and Navy’s mother, Lunden, are working together to foster a relationship that is in the best interests of their daughter, preserving her privacy as much as possible going forward," Biden's statement to PEOPLE read.
"This is not a political issue, it’s a family matter," the president's statement explained. "Jill and I only want what is best for all of our grandchildren, including Navy.”
Hunter Biden had been in court earlier this year dealing with a child support case with Roberts, per Fox News. A settlement was reached last month in which Hunter's daughter was barred from using the Biden last name and Roberts was instead given a number of the 53-year-old's paintings.
According to PEOPLE, an inside source explained that the child support case has dictated the relationship that Hunter and the rest of the Biden family have with Navy.
"You have to remember there were some fairly contentious legal proceedings between Navy’s parents happening until just a few weeks ago," the source said. "As grandparents, the Bidens are following Hunter’s lead. They are — and have been — giving Hunter and Lunden the space and time to figure things out."
“Thousands of families have faced similar circumstances, working it out in private, versus the spotlight," the source explained. "At the center is a 4-year-old girl and everyone wants what is best for her, including all of her grandparents.”
While the issue at hand is quite a private affair for the Biden family, that hasn't stopped many from questioning whether President Biden's self-avowed family values are genuine.
A New York Times op-ed released earlier this month, titled "It’s Seven Grandkids, Mr. President," ripped the president for not addressing Navy in various speeches where he said he only had six grandchildren.
As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, "a fair bit of the opinion piece sees Dowd discussing how her sister, someone who she states is a Republican, is writing to Joe Biden in hopes of convincing the president to accept his son’s love child. Dowd notes how she and her sister have disagreed on many political topics, but they were both able to agree that what President Biden is doing right now is highly immoral."
While it is good that President Biden has finally acknowledged his grandchild it is still unfortunate that Navy will likely never be a part of the Biden family and instead be relegated to history as the love child of a drug abuser.
