On Monday, former Vice President Mike Pence officially filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to enter the race for the Republican nomination to be President of the United States.
Pence has repeatedly polled in the single digits in presidential polling and is seen as a longshot candidate.
The former vice president is expected to make his official campaign announcement in Iowa on Wednesday where he is expected to focus his campaign on connecting with evangelical voters as he cautions the Republican Party from embracing populism.
Pence is seen as many as a member of the GOP old guard which has attempted to lay out a vision for the country in contrast to 45th President Donald Trump. In addition to attempting to wrangle the reins of the party back to the pre-Trump era, it is likely that Pence will attempt to clear his name of the various attacks he reccieved from Trump at the end of his first term.
This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
