BREAKING: Speaker Mike Johnson Will File Amicus Brief To Supreme Court To Aid Steve Bannon

On Tuesday evening, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson revealed that he is working on filing an amicus brief to the Supreme Court to aid former Trump advisor Steve Bannon in his appeal to the court to delay his prison sentence that is set to begin at the beginning of next month. Bannon, who faces a four-month prison sentence after defying a subpoena from the January 6 Committee, has repeatedly argued that he was justified in not adhering to the subpoena given executive privilege.

"We're working on filing an amicus brief in his case because the January 6 Committee was, we think, wrongfully constituted," Johnson told Fox News host Sean Hannity. "We think the work was tainted. We think that they may have very well covered up evidence and even more nefarious activities. We've been investigating the committee itself. We disagree with how Speaker Pelosi put all that together. We think it violated House rules, and so we'll be expressing that to the court, and I think it will help Steve Bannon on his appeal."

Speaker Johnson's strategic move is a potential lifeline for the conservative commentator. If successful, it could give the Supreme Court grounds to delay the sentencing. This would be possible if the Speaker's Office could convincingly explain that the January 6 Committee was not created correctly and thus the subpoena wasn't valid.

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, President Trump condemned the court ruling ordering Bannon to jail as a tragedy. "It is a Total and Complete American Tragedy that the Crooked Joe Biden Department of Injustice is so desperate to jail Steve Bannon, and every other Republican, for that matter, for not SUBMITTING to the Unselect Committee of Political Thugs, made up of all Democrats, and two CRAZED FORMER REPUBLICAN LUNATICS, Cryin' Adam Kinzinger, and Liz 'Out of Her Mind' Cheney," Trump wrote on Turth Social.

"It has been irrefutably proven that it was the Unselects who committed actual crimes when they deleted and destroyed all material evidence, in a pathetic attempt to protect Crazy Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats from the TRUTH — THAT I DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG," he continued. "The unAmerican Weaponization of our Law Enforcement has reached levels of Illegality never thought possible before. INDICT THE UNSELECT J6 COMMITTEE FOR ILLEGALLY DELETING AND DESTROYING ALL OF THEIR 'FINDINGS!' MAGA2024."
