Don Lemon And CNN Public Relations Release Dueling Statements After Lemon’s Firing

On Monday, CNN Public Relations refuted Don Lemon over Twitter, after the recently-fired news anchor claimed he was released without notice from upper management.

“I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN. I am stunned. After 17 years at CNN, I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly. At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network,” Lemon wrote on Twitter.

“It is clear that there are some larger issues at play. With that said, I want to thank my colleagues and the many teams I have worked with for an incredible run,” he said, adding, “They are the most talented journalists in the business, and I wish them all the best,” Lemon tweeted.

To this, CNN’s Public Relations Twitter replied, “Don Lemon’s statement about this morning’s events is inaccurate. He was offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter.”

This came after CNN PR initially tweeted a tribute to Lemon, which read, “CNN and Don have parted ways. Don will forever be a part of the CNN family, and we thank him for his contributions over the past 17 years. We wish him well and will be cheering him on in his future endeavors.”

As the DC Enquirer previously reported, Don Lemon has recently faced several scandals. He insinuated that by some measures, women over the age of 40 are past their prime — in response to Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley.

The New York Post even reported that White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre refused to be interviewed by Lemon.

“Jean-Pierre, a guest on the morning show on Thursday, made it clear to CNN that she did not want to go head to head with the bombastic anchor, a source with knowledge said. ‘The White House asked for her not to be interviewed by Don,’ the source added. A second source close to CNN said Jean-Pierre ‘refused’ to go on if Lemon was asking the questions,” The New York Post reported.

This is still a developing story, but it appears CNN will not allow Lemon’s account to be accepted as gospel truth.
