Department Of Homeland Security IDs 400 Migrants Smuggles Into US By ISIS-Linked Network, 50 Still At-Large

The Department of Homeland Security announced this week that around 400 illegal migrants from Central Asia entered the country at the southern border with the help of an ISIS-linked international smuggling organization. Federal authorities have been able to arrest 150 of the migrants on immigration charges; however, at least 50 are still at large in the United States.

The migrants, who traveled to the southern border from Russia, Moldova, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Georgia, went through border patrol processing and were deemed to not be a threat when they were released into the country because they were not on the government's terrorist watch list nor were they raising any red flags for officials.

"In this case, it was the information that suggested a potential tie to ISIS because of some of the individuals involved in [smuggling migrants to the border] that led us to want to take extra care,"  a senior Biden administration official explained to the outlet, "and out of an abundance of caution make sure that we exercised our authority in the most expansive and appropriate way to mitigate risk because of this potential connection being made."

Officials told NBC News that they are "not panicking" because the individuals deemed "subjects of concern" do not pose an immediate threat to the American heartland. The disturbing report comes after federal authorities arrested suspected ISIS terrorists in the US last month. As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, eight foreign nationals from Tajikistan, who were allowed to roam the country freely after crossing the southern border illegally last year, were arrested after being suspected of having ties to the Islamic terrorist organization ISIS-K

The eight men were arrested in Los Angeles, New York City, and Philadelphia after being tracked by the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force for months to track their activities. The men were able to cross the border illegally and pass a background check without being held by border officials. One of the men utilized the CBP One app, which migrants use to claim asylum and book a hearing.

The crisis at the southern border is a national security threat. It allows America's adversaries to take advantage of that lapse in security and infiltrate the United States to commit terrorist attacks against innocent Americans. The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI have repeatedly highlighted this fact. During congressional testimony earlier this year, FBI Director Christopher Wray warned about the potential threat of a terrorist attack by ISIS-K in the United States. "Our most immediate concern has been that individuals or small groups will draw twisted inspiration from the events in the Middle East to carry out attacks here at home," he told the House Appropriations Committee. "But now, increasingly concerning is the potential for a coordinated attack here in the homeland, akin to the ISIS-K attack we saw at the Russia concert hall a couple weeks ago."
