Presidential nominee and Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) laid out the reasons that he decided to run in the 2024 race as opposed to waiting until after former President Donald Trump's second term in 2028, confidently declaring his intent to stomp Biden in the November election.
DeSantis appeared on ‘Fox & Friends' to discuss numerous events dominating the news cycle, but the topic of the recent declaration from the Sunshine State governor to run for the Oval Office arose. Joey Jones asked the new candidate why he chose to run now as opposed to after Trump could serve a potential second term.
“Because everyone knows if I’m the nominee I will beat Biden, I will serve two terms, and I will be able to destroy leftism in the country and leave woke ideology on the dustbin of history,” the governor answered boldly. “At the end of the day, I’ve shown in Florida an ability to win huge swaths of voters that Republicans typically can’t win while also delivering the boldest agenda anywhere in the country.”
“And I think that there’s a reason why the legacy media is attacking me more than they’re attacking anybody else,” he added. “I think they realize that if I am successful in winning the Republican nomination, we’re gonna bring it home in the general election and I’ve pledged to Republican voters if you nominate me I will be taking the oath of office on January 20th, 2025, on the west side of the capitol. No more excuses.”
Todd Piro then asked the politician the simple but important question: “Can you win Iowa." DeSantis recently visited Iowa before even making his presidential bid and saw some success with the citizens of the Hawkeye state.
“Of course, we can but we’re competing everywhere,” answered DeSantis. “Iowa is very important. We’ve got an incredible amount of support. I got endorsed by 37 legislators there before I even announced my candidacy. We’ve obviously got a lot in common with Iowa in terms of what Florida has done and what they’ve done under Governor Kim Reynolds.”
The Sunshine State governor highlighted his side in the fight against Disney, noting how he and his administration has fought against the sexualization of children and parental rights in their education. He noted how that viewpoint would fall in line well with a state like Iowa, aiding him in gaining the nomination.
DeSantis and the hosts then spent some time discussing what Memorial Day meant to them before getting to the big-ticket question of preventing a war with Russia or China in the coming years.
“The military I see is different from the military I served in,” the governor said, noting how much of the military has become encompassed in liberal politics, straying from its intent as a protective body of America, and causing major negative effects in the military. DeSantis noted how he would repair the morale of the military, adding that it’s essential to keep soldiers motivated during their time serving.
DeSantis and Trump’s open conflicts have presented a dividing line in the Republican Party, but coming to the 2024 election, it’s important to note that both are good choices. DeSantis brings forth good ideas to the table and so does Trump, and whoever is chosen, the party must unite behind that candidate to oust the inept Joe Biden from corroding America any further.
