DeSantis Set to Skip MAJOR Conservative Conference

Florida Governor and prominent Republican Ron DeSantis reportedly will not be attending the Conservative Political Action Conference or CPAC, arguably one of the most anticipated events of the year in conservative political circles. Given the thus-far undeclared presidential aspirations of DeSantis, it seems questionable that he would choose not to attend such a gathering.

According to The Floridian, a source told the outlet that the Governor was invited to attend and speak at the event alongside other headliners such as declared Presidential candidate and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.

The Floridian reported that its source indicated DeSantis is “going to skip” the conference, though the unnamed source wishes he would reconsider.

The outlet noted, that “One Florida-based political operative, who asked that we keep his or her identify out of this story, believes that DeSantis should go to CPAC, adding that if he didn’t go, ‘he would look weak.'”

As if on queue, former GOP Congressional candidate Laura Loomer tweeted,

The independent journalist formerly of Project Veritas added, “To be fair, I skip @CPAC too. Because I was BANNED in 2019 for confronting a CNN reporter. DeSantis always attends CPAC, but he’s skipping this year to avoid facing Trump. Hilarious!”

According to The Floridian, the list of confirmed speakers , includes Florida’s Congressional Republicans Bryon Donalds, Kat Cammack, Greg Steube, Matt Gaetz, Senator Rick Scott, and Attorney General Ashley Moody, in addition to former President Trump. It does not list Gov. DeSantis as a speaker.

Former President Donald Trump cited recent polls in a post to TruthSocial,

“‘Support for DeSantis cools in latest GOP POLL.’ Washington Times. Of course it cools. He wants to cut Social Security and Medicare, loves ‘Throw them over the cliff’ Paul Ryan, who is destroying FoxNews and the WSJ, Piglet Karl Rove, and ‘Jeb.’ Also, Ron DeSanctimonious is for Globalist Club For NO Growth, and Open Borders Charles Koch. We want AMERICA FIRST, NOT AMERICA LAST!!!”

The poll numbers for DeSantis have shown a distinct drawback from a high point back in January according to RealClearPolitics with a recent Harvard-Harris poll giving Trump a distinct 23-point advantage.

Under these circumstances, it wouldn’t be out of the question for DeSantis to demure from the race and elect instead to endorse President Trump.

On Feb. 9th The Hill reported that DeSantis is nearing a decision on whether or not he will run. Perhaps his reported decision to skip CPAC is indicative of his choice.
