Desperate Facebook Considers Reinstating Trump’s Account

Facebook is considering removing forty-fifth President Donald Trump’s suspension in January 2023 and allowing him back onto their platforms.

In January 2021, Facebook suspended forty-fifth President Donald Trump from Facebook and Instagram for two years.

“When you make a decision that affects the public realm, you need to act with great caution. You shouldn’t throw your weight about,” President of Global Affairs for Meta, Nick Clegg, said.

“If we think there is content on our platform which will lead to real-world harm — physical harm — then we feel we have a clear responsibility to act against it.” Clegg added.

When Elon Musk said if he owned Twitter, he’d allow Trump back on, Trump said he would stay on his social media platform, Truth Social, and not return to Twitter.

“I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on Truth. I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on Truth. The bottom line is, no, I am not going back to Twitter,” Trump said in an interview.

This comes as Meta-formerly-Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s net worth has dropped by $70.2 billion in 2022, dropping him 14 spots down to the 20th richest person in the world. Zuckerberg’s net worth reached a peak of $140 billion in September 2021. When Zuckerberg announced the rebranding of Facebook to Meta, his net worth began to decline.

Meta reported their first ever quarterly decline in revenue from the previous year in July 2022.

“Facebook’s ruling is an insult to the record-setting 75m people, plus many others, who voted for us,” Trump wrote in a statement when he was removed from Facebook. “They shouldn’t be allowed to get away with this censoring and silencing, and ultimately, we will win. Our country can’t take this abuse anymore.”

“Next time I’m in the White House there will be no more dinners, at his request, with Mark Zuckerberg and his wife. It will be all business,” Trump continued. Trump has also slammed Zuckerberg for a $400 million donation he made to local election officers in 2020 to “adapt to changes in voting patterns that resulted from the pandemic,” according to Business Insider.

“Mark Zuckerberg, in my opinion, a criminal, is allowed to spend over $400 million and therefore able to change the course of a Presidential Election, and nothing happens to Facebook,” Trump wrote in an email.

“Since our initial donation, there have been multiple lawsuits filed in an attempt to block these funds from being used, based on claims that the organizations receiving donations have a partisan agenda,” Zuckerberg responded in a statement.

“That’s false. These funds will serve communities throughout the country – urban, rural and suburban – and are being allocated by non-partisan organizations,” he added. Okay Zuckerberg.
