Donald Trump Takes A Stand, Calls For The End Of Biden's Electric Vehicle 'Madness'

On Monday, leading Republican presidential contender and 45th President Donald J. Trump called for the end of Joe Biden's electric vehicle (EV) initiatives -- calling them 'madness.'

"Shawn Fain, the respected President of the United Auto Workers, cannot even think about allowing ALL ELECTRIC CARS - THEY WILL ALL BE MADE IN CHINA, and the Auto Industry in America will cease to exist," Trump wrote in a viral Truth Social post. "There is already a giant 'E GLUT,' they don’t go far or long, are very expensive, and the consumer must be given a CHOICE. Vote for TRUMP, and I will stop this Madness, IMMEDIATELY! Mexico & Canada LOVE Biden’s idiotic policy. SAVE MICHIGAN and the other Auto States. SAVE THE AMERICAN CONSUMER!!!"
 
Trump continued in a separate post, saying, "The Great State of Michigan will not have an auto industry anymore if Crooked Joe Biden’s crazed concept of “all Electric Cars” goes into effect. CHINA WILL TAKE IT ALL, 100%. United Auto Workers, VOTE FOR TRUMP. Get your leaders to ENDORSE ME, I WILL KEEP ALL OF THESE GREAT JOBS, AND BRING IN MANY MORE. CHOICE IN SCHOOLS, AND CHOICE IN CARS!!!"

For context, Joe Biden has famously pushed for 'decarbonizing' our economy by 2050, including making fifty percent of all cars electric by 2030. As the Biden White House said in a 2022 press release, "Since his first day in office, President Biden’s auto vision and leadership has positioned the United States to lead the EV future – to create jobs, make more in America, and fight climate change while advancing environmental justice. The President united automakers and autoworkers around the bold goal for electric vehicles to make up 50% of all vehicles sold in the United States by 2030."

Reuters reports that the Biden administration's Environmental Protection Agency contends this number could be as high as 66 percent by 2032. As such, Trump attacked Biden's push toward EVs during a June speech in Michigan. In that speech, Trump said, as previously reported by The Hill, "Biden is a catastrophe for Michigan and his environmental extremism is heartless and disloyal and horrible for the American worker and you’re starting to see it."

Trump continued, adding, "Driven by his ridiculous regulations, electric cars will kill more than half of U.S. auto jobs and decimate the suppliers that they decimated already — decimate the suppliers, and it’s going to decimate your jobs and it’s going to decimate more than anybody else, the state of Michigan ... It’s is going to be decimation."

"It’s going to be at a level that people can’t even imagine. The state of Michigan is going to be decimation," Trump concluded.
