On Monday, the host of "War Room" on Real America's Voice and friend of 45th President Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, reported to the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, to begin his four-month sentence for defying a congressional subpoena for an investigation into the U.S. Capitol rally on January 6, 2021. Bannon told reporters he is "proud" to become a "political prisoner." With Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) with him, Bannon told reporters, "I am going to prison. I'm proud to go to prison. I am proud of going to prison today. I am proud to go to prison if this is what it takes to stand up to tyranny. If this is what it takes to stand up to the Garland corrupt, criminal DOJ. If this is what it takes to stand up to Nancy Pelosi, if this is what it takes to stand up to Joe Biden, I'm proud to do it," Bannon said.
"Father, don't pray for me. Pray for our enemies. They're the ones who are going to need the prayers," Bannon told a priest who came to the event. "It's Nancy Pelosi and Merrick Garland that made me a martyr, but martyrs die, and I'm far from dead baby," Bannon added. "You can't run a business from a federal prison. I have no intention to do anything with business, but I have a First Amendment right. I have a First Amendment right to have my voice heard, and my voice is going to be heard every day, and more importantly, their voices are going to be heard. You don't need my voice. We're a populous movement," Bannon added.
On Sunday, Bannon told the left-wing Daily Beast in an interview, "It's very simple. I'm a political prisoner because I have a very successful platform that reaches the common man. They hate that, they will do anything to shut that down. It doesn't matter that I'm in prison," he added. "The show will be bigger… They're making me a martyr. Steve Bannon is not. They're the ones to overplay their hand."
Bannon's Real America's Voice podcast and show will continue while he is behind bars with different hosts, including Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), and Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO). This comes after U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols allowed Bannon to stay free for two years while he appealed but eventually revoked Bannon's bail and ordered him to report to prison by July 1 due to an appeals court panel upholding his contempt of Congress conviction. "There is also no denying the political realities here. Mr. Bannon is a high-profile political commentator and campaign strategist. He was prosecuted by an administration whose policies are a frequent target of Mr. Bannon's public statements," an emergency motion filed by Bannon's new lawyer, R. Trent McCotter, wrote.
