Transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney has fled to South America following the immense backlash that both he and Bud Light have faced for the controversial team-up in April where the company sent him a can featuring his likeness to celebrate his “365 Days of Womanhood.”
Mulvaney shared on his TikTok that he was taking a vacation to Machu Picchu, Peru to get away from the controversy and fallout surrounding him.
"I came here to feel something. And I definitely have. I have done shaman ceremonies that were like 10 years worth of therapy, it was wild,” he said in the TikTok video. "I’ve seen a lot of llamas. The people here are so kind. I feel very safe here. It’s a little sad that I had to leave my country to feel safe, but that will get better eventually.”
Last month, the transgender influencer called out Bud Light for not supporting him through what he called “more transphobia than I could’ve ever imagined,” as previously covered by the DC Enquirer.
“What transpired from that video was more bullying and more transphobia than I could’ve ever imagined, and I should’ve made this video months ago but I didn’t," the biological male lamented in the video. "And I was scared, and I was scared of more backlash, and I felt personally guilty for what transpired, so I patiently waited for things to get better. But surprise, they didn’t. And I was waiting for the brand to reach out to me, but they never did."
The partnership between Mulvaney and Bud Light has cost parent company Anheuser-Busch billions between lost sales in the ongoing boycott and loss in market value. The company is even continuing to lose in sales to Modelo Especial, the previous number two beer brand in America that snatched the coveted first place spot during the controversy.
Mulvaney seems intent on continuing to ride the wave of controversy surrounding Bud Light for attention. Going to Peru is not going to make him any safer than if he were to stay in the States, especially considering the higher rate of violent crimes that the South American country sees.
The ‘soul-searching’ trip that Mulvaney is embarking on is simply another attempt to pull pity from his followers to validate his extremely fragile gender perception. The Bud Light controversy probably shook up the idea that he could ever be a woman with many outlets referring to him by his biological gender as opposed to the little fantasy that he tells himself to get by. Regardless, no amount of pity can change the truth of the world that surrounds him that he is a man and transphobia is simply people informing him of reality.
