Director Eduardo Verastegui Tells The Incredible Tale Of Making 'Sound Of Freedom'

‘Sound of Freedom’ director Eduardo Verastegui gave an interview last week discussing the recent movie and encouraging people to go watch it to raise more awareness about the child trafficking ring that goes on around the globe.

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, the movie is about the real-life child sex trafficking ring that exists throughout Latin America and the United States. The movie itself is based on the true story of Tim Ballard, a former CIA agent, who becomes frustrated only capturing people who watched child pornography in the United States and not catching those responsible for making the evil product.

Verastegui spoke on 'Morning Wire' alongside host John Bickley about ‘Sound of Freedom.’ During the interview, he talked about the challenges he faced to get his career started, talking about how he came from a small border town in Mexico. He initially went to school to become a lawyer as his parents wanted but ultimately left after only two semesters as he had no passion for the study.

Over time he began working to pursue his dream of becoming an actor and singer, joining a boy band that found success and touring all around Mexico and Latin America. Once he finished the endeavor, he began acting in soap operas before going to Miami to record a solo album and meeting a vice president of casting for 20th Century Fox. He continued to work hard in the entertainment industry but it changed when he met Tim Ballard, the man who ‘Sound of Freedom’ is based on.

When he met Ballard and was introduced to his friends, he was both amazed and disgusted. Seeing what Ballard had done made him see the ex-DHS agent as “a true American hero,” but knowing of the child sex trafficking ring also caused him nightmares. Verastegui then realized that he had a unique opportunity to raise awareness through what he called “a weapon of mass instruction and inspiration” by making a movie.

The director made “a promise to God” to dedicate his life to ending child trafficking, starting by making ‘Sound of Freedom.’ He noted the numerous difficulties that he faced during the production of the movie, from the questions asked by friends and investors to narrowing down what to cover about Tim Ballard's life. The biggest hurdle was after the completion of finding someone to take the movie as both Netflix and Amazon passed on the movie, but ultimately Angel Studios came in and saved the movie from being left to obscurity.
