On Thursday, the viewership numbers for the newly renamed ‘Fox News Tonight’ hosted by Brian Kilmeade were released and it’s even worse than anyone could have imagined for Fox News.
The Wednesday night show for the 8 pm slot saw an absolute bloodbath. According to AdWeek, Kilmeade only brought in 1.332 million viewers and in fact was beaten out by the liberal networks, something that Carlson rarely if ever faced.
MSNBC’s Chris Hayes brought in 1.377 million viewers taking first place for the night while CNN’s Anderson Cooper got 643,000.
With Tucker Carlson pulling in an average of approximately 3.25 million viewers, that means that Kilmeade is wildly underperforming.
On some of Tucker’s good nights, he would pull over four million Americans. This for instance occurred during the former Fox News host’s expose on January 6th with 4.13 million viewers meaning that Kilmeade is more than two million viewers short of matching some of Tucker’s best moments on air.
Viewership in the 8:00pm ET slot on Fox News:
Tucker’s J6 Ep: 4.13 Million
Tucker’s Average: 3.25 Million
Tucker's Last Ep: 2.65 Million*Tucker Leaves*
Monday: 2.59 Million
Tuesday: 1.70 Million
Wednesday: 1.33 Million— Benny Johnson (@bennyjohnson) April 27, 2023
Making matters even worse for Fox, the network plummeted in the key demographic of 25-54 which Carlson normally was able to dominate in. The damage to that demographic was so bad that Fox got beaten out by both CNN and MSNBC.
Kilmeade was only able to attract only 124,000 viewers from the key demo while CNN managed 139,000 and MSNBC got 167,000 viewers, clearly showing that a Fox without Tucker is a Fox without those between 25 to 54.
On Tucker’s penultimate show on Thursday, he brought in 334,000 viewers from that age frame meaning that Kilmeade lost over half of his audience, approximately 62 percent.
The ratings for Fox News just continue to go downhill. On Monday, ‘Fox News Tonight’ brought in 2.59 million, Tuesday brought in 1.7 million, and the latest show plummeted by 400,000 to 1.3 million.
Before long the 8 pm slot could see less than a million viewers for Fox News in what would be a massive blow to the network.
