On Monday, Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) fired back on X (formerly Twitter) at an Australian girl complaining about how often Americans proudly feature the flag, delivering a four-word response that perfectly summarizes many citizens' feelings.
The original video came from a TikTok account where the Australian claimed there were too many flags. “I’m just gonna say it; there are too many American flags,” the foreigner said. “Like they’re on houses; they’re on cars; saw them on couch cushions. Like I don’t know who’s making these American flags, but they’d be making a bloody fortune, and like, you’re the only country I know that does this, like.”
“The only time I think I’ve ever seen an Australian flag is on the Harbour Bridge,” she added in her rant. “Could not tell you what it looks like. Like, I know what it’s like, blue, and it’s got some stars on it, but I think I could draw the American flag from memory like I think I can make a bloody sculpture out of it. That’s how many times I’ve seen it. It’s enough.” She finished her tirade by asking Americans to “pull back on it, okay? Let’s stay humble.” Of course, a random foreigner attempting to tell Americans how they need to share their patriotism holds absolutely no sway. Gov. Abbott seemed to think that way, responding with the simple four words of “Go back to Australia” along with eight emojis of the American flag in a tweet that has garnered over three million views. As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, recent polling shows an all-time low for those who say that they are “extremely proud” to be an American citizen, especially those among the left. Age also plays a notable factor in whether or not someone is strongly patriotic. However, even with the all-time low, that doesn’t change that there is still a strong front for those who are. Maybe only 39 percent of Americans say they’re extremely proud to live in the greatest nation ever to grace the face of the Earth, but that means they’ll need to make up for the other 61 percent that fail to appreciate how lucky they were to be born in such an amazing place. Any foreigner who comes across the border of America needs to shut their traps about how proud American citizens are of their country. If anyone has a problem with the stars and stripes that fly, as Gov. Abbott said, they can “go back to” where ever they came from.
