On Wednesday, Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) issued a powerful statement defending Texas's right to secure its border. This comes after the Biden administration has effectively enabled a radical open-border agenda -- an agenda the Supreme Court recently did nothing to curb after Texas asserted its right to put up razor wire to block the inflow of illegal migrants.
"The federal government has broken the compact between the United States and the States," Abbott asserted. "The Executive Branch of the United States has a constitutional duty to enforce federal laws protecting States, including immigration laws on the books right now. President Biden has refused to enforce those laws and has even violated them. The result is that he has smashed records for illegal immigration."
Abbott continued, writing, "Despite having been put on notice in a series of letters—one of which I delivered to him by hand—President Biden has ignored Texas'sTexas's demand that he perform his constitutional duties." The governor then listed three of the duties Biden has failed to uphold -- including not enacting the existing immigration laws enacted by Congress while also ignoring federal statutes and wasting taxpayer dollars in their fight against Texas.
The Texas governor then made a powerful constitutional argument for Texas's right to stand up to the federal government. "That is why the Framers included both Article IV, § 4, which promises that the federal government ''shall protect each [State] against invasion,'' and Article I, § 10, Clause 3, which acknowledges ''the States' sovereign interest in protecting their borders.'' Arizona v. United States, 567 U.S. 387, 419 (2012) (Scalia, J., dissenting)," Abbott added. He argued that in light of the Biden administration's unwillingness to protect Texas's borders, it was up to them to assert their own prerogatives here.
Abbott's argument persuaded at least 15 other states -- including Arkansas, Oklahoma, Florida, Virginia, West Virginia, Nebraska, Georgia, North Dakota, South Dakota, Alabama, Tennessee, Montana, Idaho, Utah, and Louisiana -- to support Texas's vision, with some even sending National Guard troops.
This is exactly what we, the people of America, need as patriots of all backgrounds rally against Biden's open border agenda. We, the people, have a sovereign right to freely associate with who we please, and the open border agenda of the Biden administration conflicts with that right. As such, we applaud Texas's courageous stand to assert its own sovereignty, and we hope and pray that come November, we will have a president who upholds that right of all states.
