On Friday, President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, lost an attorney representing him in his federal gun charge case after the attorney filed paperwork to withdraw himself from the case.
Hunter Biden’s attorney, Richard Jones, said Hunter Biden consented to his withdrawal in a document filed by Jones.
“Mr. Biden has been advised of, and consents to, our withdrawal. He also agrees this withdrawal will cause no material adverse effect or prejudice to him and remains completely satisfied with Messrs. [Abbe] Lowell’s and [Bartholomew] Dalton’s continued representation of him," Jones writes.
"Accordingly, our withdrawal as counsel will have no material adverse effect on Mr. Biden’s interests," Jones wrote.
This comes after Hunter Biden appeared in court for his arraignment on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to his charges of one count of possession of a firearm by a person who is addicted to a controlled substance and thus making a false statement concerning the information required by federal firearms licensed dealers when purchasing a firearm.
Hunter Biden faces up to 25 years in prison with each count carrying a maximum fine of $250,000.
Hunter Biden’s judge, Magistrate Judge Christoper Burke, required Hunter to seek employment and communicate all international travel plans with him. The judge also prohibited Hunter from possessing a firearm and using alcohol and drugs.
President Biden's son is seeking to dismiss the federal indictment against him.
"He will seek to dismiss the Indictment against him pursuant to the immunity provisions of that Agreement. This is what we have said all along, we believe the diversion agreement is valid so these charges should be dismissed," Hunter Biden's legal team told Axios on Friday.
"We believe these charges are barred by the agreement the prosecutors made with Mr. Biden ... we plan to demonstrate all of that in court," Biden's attorney Abbe Lowell said.
