'I Really Need To Be Careful Here': Director Wray Fumbles Answer About FBI Agents At January 6th Riot

During a series of hearings before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, FBI Director Christopher Wray refused to confirm whether or not confidential human sources were present at the Capitol during the January 6th riots. Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA) pressed the director for information, asking if there were one or more of the sources commonly known as informants in the crowd.

According to Grabien, Issa began by asking, "How many individuals were either FBI employees or people that the FBI had made contact with or in the January 6th entry of the Capitol and surrounding area?"

In a cagey, deliberately vague, and seemingly evasive response, Wray replied,

"So, I really need to be careful here talking about where we have or have not used confidential human sources — ," only to be cut off by Issa who pressed him to answer.

"Was there one or more — was there one or more individuals that would fit that description on January 6 that were in or around the Capitol?" Issa asked.

Wray pivoted to referencing a previous court filing in a January 6th related case. "I believe there is a filing in one of the January 6 cases that can provide a little more information about this and I’m happy to see if we can follow back up with you and provide that — "

Issa again interjected reminding the director, "I just want an answer was there one or more? I mean, you would know if there was at least one individual who worked for the FBI who entered the Capitol on that day."

Wray then appeared to hesitate, responding to Issa, "I can’t — again, I just can’t speak to that here, but I’m happy to get the court filing that — "

According to The Washington Times, Wray then insisted that no one associated with the FBI instigated violence on January 6th.

He claimed, "I will say this notion that somehow the violence at the Capitol on Jan. 6 was part of some operation orchestrated by FBI sources and agents is ludicrous and is a disservice to our brave, hardworking, dedicated men and women."

However, Issa was unimpressed and continued to push for answers. He continued, "I asked you simply if there one or more [informants], you won’t answer that," per the Times.

"So I’m going to make the assumption that there was more … than ten and that you’re ducking the question because you don’t want to answer for the fact that you had at least one. And somehow [you] missed understanding that some of the individuals were very dangerous and that there were others inciting individuals to enter the capital after others broke windows."

As previously reported by DC Enquirer, whistleblowers have sworn to the Judiciary Committee that numerous FBI confidential human sources and undercover agents were in fact among the rioters within the Capitol. Their presence is no longer in question however, the extent of their participation continues to be obscured from congressional investigators by the FBI.
