‘Jesus Revolution’ Sees Multi-Million Dollar Success At Theaters Becoming The Highest Grossing Film For Studio Since Pre-Pandemic

The hit Christian movie ‘Jesus Revolution’ has become a major success for Lionsgate as audiences flock to the theaters to see the film starring Jonathan Roumie and Kelsey Grammer.

As of this report, the film has grossed $40,862,465 after being released on February 24th, according to Box Office Mojo.

The film’s success, with only a 15 million budget, shows that audiences are longing for Christian-centric stories at the theaters. With the film nearly tripling its original investment, Lionsgate should be proud of its product given that it is their most successful film since 2019’s ‘Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’ starring Ryan Reynolds, as reported by Breitbart.

“The numbers are incredible, especially coming out of a pandemic,” said producer Kevin Downes to Christian Headlines, adding that Christians are “coming out in droves” and that they “are not going away.”

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, the studio expected the film to gross around $6-7 million over its opening weekend. The film blew these expectations out of the water, grossing over $15.8 million.

In response to the astounding success of the film, the company behind the project announced on their Facebook page that they will be expanding their showings: “We’ve added 100 new theaters for this weekend!! The audience reaction has blown us all away, and we’re thrilled to be bringing JESUS REVOLUTION to more cities! Check now to see if JESUS REVOLUTION is playing near you. Let’s keep the movement going.”

The movie’s co-director Jon Erwin took to social media to explain how grateful he is for the support he has received for the movie and the impact that God has been able to have by using the movie to bring people to faith.

“I don’t have words. I’m supposed to say thank you for your overwhelming support of ‘Jesus Revolution’ and for shocking the industry and for the opening weekend. I’m so awestruck with how God is using the movie. I don’t even know what words to use,” said the movie’s director. “God’s timing is just perfect and revival is in the air in America again. I love how much you love this movie. I love watching this movie with an audience. It’s such a privilege to entertain you. To hear you laugh and cry and to hear theaters, where people are cheering during the film, is amazing. But most of all to hear how God is using the movie and to see these posts on social media where people are getting baptized right after the movie.”

“We did not plan this moment of Jesus walking on water, Super Bowl commercials, and a movie called ‘Jesus Revolution’ all in the same month with revival,” he said. “The fact that this is happening, Revival is in the air again. Jesus is back in the conversation again.”

As Christian movies and series like ‘The Chosen’ and ‘Jesus Revolution’ have astounding success, Hollywood has hopefully gotten the message loud and clear. Americans want more faith-based stories in their entertainment and are willing to pay to receive them.
