Jimmy Kimmel Broke Oscars Protocol, Took Trump’s Bait, And Read His Truth Social Post Live

On Sunday, 45th President Donald Trump took to his top-rated social media platform, Truth Social, to take aim at the "disjointed, boring, and very unfair" Oscars. Trump slammed Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel, asking if there has "EVER been a WORSE HOST?" Trump's hilarious and spot-on Truth Social post quickly became the focus of the Oscars after Kimmel took Trump's bait and read Trump's post to the crowd, giving Trump the final moment of the night.

"Has there EVER been a WORSE HOST than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars. His opening was that of a less than average person trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be. Get rid of Kimmel and perhaps replace him with another washed up, but cheap, ABC' talent,' George Slopanopoulos," Trump wrote. "He would make everybody on stage look bigger, stronger, and more glamorous. Also a really bad politically correct show tonight, and for years - Disjointed, boring, and very unfair. Why don't they just give the Oscars to those that deserve them. Maybe that way, their audience and TV ratings will come back from the depths. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN," Trump added.

During the Oscars, Kimmel said, "Doing this show is not about me, and I appreciate you having me — it's really about you. But I was told we have an extra minute, and I'm really proud of something, and I was wondering if I could share it with you. I just got a review." After reading Trump's Truth Social post to the crowd, Kimmel said, "Thank you, President Trump. Thank you for watching! Isn't it past your jail time?" During an interview with Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos on Monday morning after the Oscars, Kimmel admitted he was told not to read Trump's post on air. "They're like, 'You've got a little bit of time,' and I was like, 'I'm reading the Trump tweet,' and they're like, 'No, no, don't read that,'" Kimmel said.

In 2021, President Trump made suggestions for the "boring" Oscars, saying, "What used to be called The Academy Awards, and now is called the 'Oscars' — a far less important and elegant name — had the lowest Television Ratings in recorded history, even much lower than last year, which set another record low." Trump added, "If they keep with the current ridiculous formula, it will only get worse—if that's possible. Go back 15 years, look at the formula they then used, change the name back to THE ACADEMY AWARDS, don't be so politically correct and boring, and do it right. ALSO, BRING BACK A GREAT HOST."
