A recent poll released by Premise Data finds that leading Republican presidential contender and 45th President Donald J. Trump is besting his opponents in both the Republican primary elections and the 2024 general election.
The survey covers the period from July 7-14. The Premise Data poll finds Trump leading the Republican field by a sizable margin. Amongst the respondents, 58 percent of voters would like the Republican Party to renominate Trump for a third straight presidential run. Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) follows considerably behind, with a measly 19 percent support. Former Vice President Mike Pence (R-IN) is the only other candidate who manages to grab five percent of voter support.
All in all, at least in the Republican primary, this is Trump's race to lose. While Governor DeSantis had significant momentum heading into 2023, Trump appears to have effectively responded to the growing threat. DeSantis will have to make some significant campaign changes if he wants to catch up to Trump; because as of right now, even if every other candidate dropped out and threw their support behind DeSantis, he would still lose 'bigly.' But even worse for the DeSantis campaign, Trump actually does better in a head-to-head matchup with the Republican governor. With all other candidates removed, Trump grabbed 65 percent of the vote, with DeSantis only getting 26 percent.
This is just the news Team Trump wanted to hear. But perhaps even better, for Team Trump, the 45th president is dominating President Biden in a hypothetical 2024 general election matchup. Trump's America First vision for our country resonates better with voters than Joe Biden's sad and pathetic attacks on our nation's founding.
The poll reveals that 41 percent of voters are throwing their support behind Donald J. Trump. Only 34 percent of voters say they will vote for Joe Biden. About 25 percent of voters said they were presently unsure.
When the matchup is changed from Trump v. Biden to DeSantis v. Biden, the results are more favorable for the Democrat president -- although with a significant caveat. Biden holds 31 percent of support in a matchup with Governor DeSantis, with the Florida Republican grabbing 29 percent of the vote. Nonetheless, the number of voters who said they were unsure who to support ballooned to 40 percent -- 15 points higher than the Trump-Biden matchup. This is undoubtedly due to DeSantis having less name recognition than the presidents of the last two administrations.
All in all, poll after poll shows Trump dominating all major competitors as 2024 inches ever close.
