Despite Residents Rejecting Migrants, New Chicago Mayor Welcomes Illegals With Open Arms

Chicago's new mayor, Brandon Johnson (D), welcomed the masses of illegal immigrants flooding the city while the residents protest the status as a sanctuary city.

Chicago has been receiving migrants since August 2022, with thousands of illegals having been bused to the city by Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX). The breaking point was reached last week when now-former Chicago Mayor Lightfoot (D) had to declare a state of emergency due to the overwhelming number crossing right before the expiration of Title 42, as previously reported by the DC Enquirer

Chicago residents have been upset with the decision, as many areas of the city already struggle with minimal resources and crime, likely to only be worsened by the migrants. Just recently, residents of Chicago’s South Shore community screamed in protest against turning an abandoned school into a migrant housing facility, as covered by the DC Enquirer.

However, despite the overwhelmed Chicago residents, Johnson was more than happy to welcome the migrants, claiming that there was plenty of space and resources in the city for the illegals.

“We don’t want our story to be told that we were unable to house the unhoused or provide safe harbor for those who are seeking refuge here because enough room for everyone in the city of Chicago, whether you are seeking asylum or you are looking for a fully funded neighborhood,” Johnson exclaimed in his address as mayor.

The statement from Johnson can’t feel any further from the truth for residents. Residents have become so fed up that on May 10th they filed a lawsuit against the city of Chicago to prevent them from housing any migrants in the South Shore school.

“The [city government’s] proposed action appears to disregard the zoning laws that are in place to safeguard the South Shore community. The failure to comply with these laws poses a significant threat to the rights and interests of the residents,” the lawsuit reads.

“It is a slap in the face that we as citizens of the United States of America do not have the resources and support but you’re going to bring people who are not citizens here in our community, in our buildings that we pay taxes for that you took away from us,” a Chicago resident said to local media, per Breitbart

Chicago has already had many problems taking care of their residents, and it would seem that they only wish to further worsen the problem. Johnson does not seem to have a good connection to the wants and needs of his citizens, and he has only just been elected. The future of Chicago citizens looks to be a concerning one.
