On Monday, it was revealed that the mass shooter who killed eight in Allen, Texas over the weekend was kicked out from the U.S. Army in 2008 following mental health concerns.
As reported by ABC News, the mass shooter joined the U.S. Army in June of 2008 and was later terminated three months later from the service.
"He was separated under the 2005 edition of Army Regulation 635-200, paragraph 5–17, Other designated physical or mental conditions," an Army official told ABC.
Footage of the shooting and its aftermath spread across the internet over the weekend and showed the shooter indiscriminately firing on passersbys after exiting his vehicle. The shooter was taken out by police at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
As reported by ABC, those who were murdered on Saturday were identified by police as Kyu Song Cho, 37, of Dallas; Cindy Cho, 35, of Dallas; Christian LaCour, 20, of Nevada, Texas; Elio Cumana-Rivas, 32, of Dallas; and Aishwarya Thatikonda, 26, of McKinney, Texas.
Police also said that three unidentified minors, ages 3, 8, and 11, were also among those murdered by the shooter.
As of this report, six individuals still remain in the hospital with injuries from the shooting.
Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) joined the Allen community on Sunday to comfort those who lost loved ones.
"The hearts of all Texans are with Allen, Texas," Abbott wrote on Twitter. "Tonight, I joined my fellow Texans in Allen for a community vigil for the innocent lives lost last night and those who are recovering from injuries. As this community heals, Texas will be with you every step of the way."
Following the shooting, Democrat politicians such as President Joe Biden have doubled down on their calls for an assault weapons ban while conservative commentators have called for increased mental health services and the use of mental asylums to isolate the mentally ill.
