On Wednesday, Axios released a new report signaling that 45th President and leading Republican presidential contender Donald J. Trump is eyeing a return to Twitter after the social media site's owner Elon Musk unbanned Trump in late 2022.
"Trump still has nearly 87 million followers on Twitter, but hasn't posted there since he was banned after the Jan. 6 riot in 2021. Now a growing number of Trump allies — and some close to his campaign — are expecting him to tweet again," Axios reports. "As Trump tries to reclaim the White House while fighting off felony charges, people close to his team think he'll eventually get back on Twitter — and that when he does, it will be with showmanship and a purpose."
Axios then quotes several notable Trump allies agreeing with this assessment.
"President Trump needs to make Twitter great again. I want him to get back on before the presidential campaign heats up," says Mike Davis, a Trump ally and founder of The Article III Project, a conservative legal group, as reported by Axios. "From a business perspective, it’s very smart he’s only on Truth. From a political perspective, he needs to be on Twitter."
Trump apparently considered returning to Twitter following the sham January 6th Committee hearings but opted against that return date in December 2022.
Trump has said in the past he has no interest in returning to Twitter. In April of last year, when it was announced Musk was in talks to buy Twitter, Trump told Fox News, “I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on Truth. I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on Truth. The bottom line is, no, I am not going back to Twitter.”
The 45th president also said in November of 2022 that Truth Social was doing 'phenomenally well' and, as such, he was uninterested in a return to Musk's Twitter. Also in consideration is an exclusivity agreement that Trump may be subject to, requiring him to post anything to Truth Social at least six hours before Twitter.
All in all, we have no idea what a Trump Twitter return would look like. We do not know if it will happen at all. But one thing is sure -- if Trump does return, he will make Twitter great, just as he made America great during his four impressive years in the Oval Office.
