At the end of the month, 45th President Donald Trump will travel to New York City to hold a massive rally at Madison Square Garden, just blocks away from where he descended the golden escalator in Trump Tower nearly a decade ago to launch his first presidential campaign. The campaign rally comes as Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), ramp up appearances in battleground states to convince voters to give them four years in the White House.
According to The New York Post, the Trump campaign has booked Madison Square Garden for October 27, just nine days before Election Day on November 5. The venue, which has a capacity of 19,500 and has been used to hold the Democratic National Convention on multiple occasions and the Republican National Convention in 2004, is expected to be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
The trip to New York works into a larger plan for Trump to try to win the Empire State on the presidential level or at least invigorate Republicans to elect Republican representatives across Long Island and Upstate New York. The state is critical for Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to maintain his majority, and this could be the difference between a divided Congress and a Republican trifecta in January 2025 if Trump wins in November.
Trump has held multiple rallies in his home state in recent months, including a 16,000-person rally at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, Long Island, last month and a rally over the summer in the Bronx that brought up to 10,000 supporters. The former president's desire to hold a rally at Madison Square Garden, one of the most famous venues in America, has been no secret. Earlier this year, President Trump said he hoped to hold a rally at MSG's arena. "And I think we have a good chance of winning New York. We're going to give it a big play," Trump told reporters in April, as previously reported by the DC Enquirer. "We're going to go to the South Bronx to do a rally and we're going to do a rally at Madison Square Garden. We'll be honoring the people who make New York work. We're honoring a lot of people. It will be very exciting."
President Trump's visit to Madison Square Garden will be a defining moment for his political career. More than nine years after he launched his presidential campaign on June 16, 2015, President Trump will return to the Big Apple to kick off the final stretch of his final bid for the White House.
