On Monday, leading 2024 presidential candidate and 45th President Donald Trump is set to win the January 15 Iowa caucuses by a massive landslide among Republican caucus-goers even with below-freezing temperatures. According to Fox Weather, the forecast high for Des Moines, Iowa, is -4 degrees Fahrenheit Monday morning. The wind chill is causing temperatures to fall to 30 degrees below zero, as well.
Suppose President Trump manages to win over 49 percent of the vote, which many polls indicate he will. In that case, he will become the first-ever Republican or Democrat to win a majority of the vote in a multicandidate caucus - a record-setting feat. The last time a candidate ever came close to winning the majority was in the 1984 Democrat caucus when Walter F. Mondale won 49 percent of the vote.
There have been two cases where a candidate has gotten over 50 percent, but neither case involved a true primary race the likes of which President Trump is up against. "Tom Harkin won 76 percent in the 1992 caucuses, but only because the other Democratic candidates had ceded Iowa to him because he was a popular senator from the state. In 2000, Al Gore won 63 percent, but that was a two-person race, against Bill Bradley," The Washington Post reports.
In a rare case of unity, the mainstream media and President Trump are in agreement - the Republican primary race is truly a race for second place to President Trump. The final NBC News/Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll, which has a margin of error of 3.7 percent, found that Trump is winning with 48 percent of the vote. 2024 Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley (R-SC) came in second place with 20 percent, Florida's Absentee Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) came in third place with 16 percent, and Vivek Ramaswamy (R-OH) came in fourth place with 8 percent.
On Monday morning, President Trump took aim at Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy via his top-rated social media platform, Truth Social, writing, "Nikki Haley can never win in the General Election because she doesn't have MAGA, and never will! Ron DeSanctimonious, at least, is MAGA-Lite. Remember, I think MAGA is almost ALL of the Republican Party. The days of the RINOS and non-AMERICA FIRST candidates are OVER! Nikki is a Globalist RINO, backed by American's for Chinese Growth, the Charles Koch con job. It's not going to happen for her, or DeSanctimonious! Vivek Votes are wasted, should come to 'TRUMP.' MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!"
