REED COOPER: Trump Is Right - Attempting To Steal His Presidential Immunity Opens Pandora’s Box

Leading 2024 presidential candidate and 45th President Donald Trump’s presidential immunity defense is 100 percent accurate. The United States Constitution’s Impeachment Judgement Clause gives all presidents, including President Trump, presidential immunity.

The clause outlines that cases “shall not extend further than to removal from Office,” meaning that a president may only be charged with an indictment in cases where the president has been impeached and convicted by trial in the Senate.

On Tuesday, A panel of three judges heard oral arguments on whether Trump has presidential immunity from being prosecuted on charges of attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Trump attended the arguments in the case brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith. Trump has pleaded not guilty to all of the four charges.

Trump said in remarks from the Waldorf Astoria, “I think it’s very unfair when an opponent… a political opponent… is prosecuting by the DOJ. Biden’s DOJ. They’re losing in every poll. They’re losing in almost every demographic.”

“Numbers came out today that are really mind-boggling if you happen to be Joe Biden. And I think they feel this is the way they’re going to try to win, and that’s not the way it goes. It’ll be bedlam in the country. It’s a very bad thing. It’s a very bad precedent. It’s the opening of a Pandora’s Box. And that’s a very sad thing that’s happened with this whole situation,” Trump added.

Trump’s point that if his presidential immunity is taken away, it would open Pandora’s box is correct. Trump highlighted how presidential immunity has protected former President Barack Obama from any charges of murdering American citizens with drone strikes.

“If I don’t get Immunity, then Crooked Joe Biden doesn’t get Immunity, and with the Border Invasion and Afghanistan Surrender, alone, not to mention the Millions of dollars that went into his ‘pockets’ with money from foreign countries, Joe would be ripe for Indictment,” Trump wrote in a post on his top-rated social media platform, Truth Social, on Monday.
