Top-rated former Fox News host turned Twitter video trailblazer Tucker Carlson is building a new media empire alongside his former partner at The Daily Caller Neil Patel, according to new reports published Friday. The pair reportedly intends to use Carlson's strong showing on Twitter videos as the foundation of this new endeavor. However, Carlson on Friday hosted 'The Summit' with Glenn Beck's Blaze Media leading to speculation of a Carlson-Beck team-up.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the new company will be built upon longer-form versions of the current free videos he is publishing twice a week to Twitter as 'Tucker on Twitter.' WSJ, citing "people familiar with the matter," reported that both Carlson and Patel are courting investors to raise hundreds of millions in venture capital to launch the as-yet-unnamed company.
The speculation is that the current content on Twitter would continue to be offered at no charge, with a subscription model on the platform providing a 'premium' experience and additional content being locked behind the paywall, according to WSJ's unnamed source. They added though that additional shows from other hosts would eventually join the lineup.
The speculation regarding Carlson's future came, however, as he hosted 'The Summit,' teaming up with Blaze Media and his fellow former Fox colleague Glenn Beck.
The move has led to some speculation of a possible alignment between Beck's The Blaze and Tucker Carlson in the future. Blaze Media was initially born as GBTV before being rebranded as The Blaze and merging with CRTV which brought with it top hosts Andrew Wilkow, and Steve Deace as well as a partnership with Steven Crowder's 'Louder With Crowder.'
Deseret Media's Jennifer Graham asked the question on Wednesday: "Is Tucker Carlson teaming up with Glenn Beck and The Blaze?" She noted that the day Carlson was let go by Fox News, Beck asked his audience, "Would you sign up for The Blaze right now so I — we — just have a bucket full of money we could throw (Carlson’s) way?"
The respect between the two conservative personalities seems to go both ways, with Carlson speaking positively of Beck's accomplishments with The Blaze prior to an interview in March.
He told his audience,As speculation flies, one thing is clear: whether Carlson goes on to found his own company or entrusts Blaze Media to carry his programming, the collaboration between Carlson and Beck is a welcome one in sharp contrast to the infighting that has punctuated conservative media for the last year.“When the history of cable news is written ... Glenn Beck will have his own chapter as possibly the greatest synthesizer of big ideas ever to appear on camera. And a lot of people made fun of Glenn Beck over the years for that, but if you go back and watch the tape, you will find out that, maybe more than any other person on television, Glenn Beck got it right. Again and again and again.”
