'One Of The Funniest Things Any American Politician Has Ever Done': Republicans Mock Progressive Democrat Over Nine Hour 'Thirst Strike' Against Governor Abbott

On Tuesday, Texas Democratic Representative Greg Casar (D-TX) launched a 'thirst strike' directed at legislation he argued failed to protect workers. While that may seem admirable, the results were anything but. In fact, the strike was not much of a strike at all -- it lasted a total of nine hours. Patriots all over Twitter quickly realized the failure of Casar's attempt at fasting, exposing him for what amounted to more woke Democrat activism.

For context, as the BBC reports, "Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a law overturning several local heat protections, such as an Austin regulation requiring a 10-minute break for every four hours for people working in the heat. Supporters of the Texas move argued local regulations were applied 'inconsistently' and encroached on the state's ability to regulate commerce and trade." This is what prompted Casar to fast for a total of nine hours.

"Yesterday was incredible," Casar tweeted. "I was honored to be joined at my thirst strike by workers in Texas and across the nation—and by lots of colleagues pushing for federal heat safety protections.9 hours without water or food, but I’m more energized than ever to get this done." According to Fox News, Casar drew a sizable crowd, one that included Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT).

Casar's woke activism prompted conservatives all over Twitter to react quickly, exposing Casar for what, in the end, amounted to a very brief fast.

"This is legitimately one of the funniest things any American politician has ever done. The humor is totally unintentional of course but it’s still hilarious," Matt Walsh tweeted. "This is a real picture that he posted of himself being attended to by three people as he attempted to go nine hours without eating, or roughly the time from an early lunch to a late dinner."

"By the way, this whole thing was a stunt to protest a law that Greg Abbott signed banning water breaks for workers in the state. But the only problem is that no such law exists or was ever signed," Walsh pointed out. And he's right. Even an uncharitable reading of the legislation -- which is remarkably pro-business -- yields nothing to the effect of a water break ban.

CNN Commentator Scott Jennings tweeted, "Congrats on … existing between early lunch and late dinner."

Jennings continued, adding, "Toss this one in there with AOC pretending to be handcuffed. The performative BS of these folks is really something."

Chuck Ross from the Washington Free Beacon tweeted, "I could do this in my sleep."

All in all, conservatives have had enough of the left's virtue signaling -- as have the American people. The time for performative stunts is over -- we, the people need action to protect our values and the American dream.
